 Our Mission
The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation’s mission is to share Christ’s love in a practical way with people in need.
From the beginning we have been inspired by Jesus' words in Matthew 25:35-41:
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me...whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." (TNIV)
Our Vision
The vision for The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation is to bring the Church and our community together in service, providing a source of food and connection in the name of Jesus Christ.
We plan on meeting many more needs in the community in the coming years, including additional meals and hours of operation. Though we are grateful for those who currently share their space with us, we dream of eventually having a home to call our own. Other possibilities include a much needed men's shelter and a drop in café.
Our Story
 The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation began when, following a small group discussion Heather Berg said, "someone should start a soup kitchen in Huntsville." Little did she suspect that the "someone" was her. Over the next few months she felt God leading her in that direction and began researching and laying plans for a soup kitchen. A non-profit organization was founded, and after a benefit concert by Ruth Cassie, the first meal was served at Thanksgiving of 2006.
A few months later, on Thursday, May 24, 2007, weekly meals begain at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, serving around 10 guests each week. A year later attendance had grown to 25 and a Monday night meal was added at Community Living. The Monday night meal moved to Trinity United Church in 2009, and by 2010 an average of 40 people were attending the soup kitchen each night.
The Table Food Bank was opened on December 12, 2008 in space donated by Anderson's Produce (during the winter months when they were closed). When spring came Sam Peters Investments graciously offered the storefront next door, and the Food Bank has been operating from there since that point. Today the Soup Kitchen and Food Bank has helped hundreds of people in Huntsville and the surrounding areas, helped by many local businesses, individual donors and over one hundred dedicated volunteers.
Our Leadership
Our founder, Heather Berg, provides practical leadership on a day-to-day basis, with the help of a board of directors made up of community members who generously give their time and leadership.
